My favorite holiday crafts are those made during the holidays. They are an excellent way to incorporate sentimental items and traditions that can be passed down through generations into your home. The little things are what the family will remember. Holidays are made more meaningful by sentimental ornaments, how the table is decorated, and traditional meals.

Christmas Table Runner Made By Hand

This festive table runner is quick and easy to make. Allow the children to draw and paint the Christmas trees; painting outside the lines is required for this enjoyable craft project. You or your older children can sew the beads into place once the paint has dried.

Supplies
  • Fabric
  • Trim
  • Christmas tree decoration
  • Fabric paint in gold
  • Gold glitter fabric paint
  • Fabric marker in brown or gold
  • Beads
  • Thread and sewing machine
  • Paintbrush
  • Ironing board and iron
Instructions

Measure your table to determine the length of fabric you'll need. Do you want your table runner to extend past the table's edges, and if so, how far? Or do you prefer a table runner that is shorter and does not hang over the sides?

Once you've cut your fabric to the desired length, you'll need to cut two identical pieces 13.5 inches wide. Fold over approximately 1/2 inch all the way around each piece and iron into place.

On a table, place one side with the folds facing you. Place the second piece on top of the first, with the folds now facing each other. Pin them all the way around, then pin the trim onto the ends.

Sew a 1/4 inch seam all the way around your table runner. You now have a basic table runner that was so quick and simple to make that you'll be making more to decorate for every occasion.

You must now paint the Christmas trees. I used a Christmas tree ornament for mine, but you could also use a stencil, stamp, or print and cut out a picture from the internet.

With a fabric marker, trace around your Christmas tree. Don't forget to add a star to the top.

Paint your Christmas tree in a sweeping motion. It is mandatory to paint outside the lines.

Next, apply gold glitter paint to each tree. Set aside your table runner to dry.

Sew beads onto your tree once they have dried.

You now have a lovely hand-painted table runner to use on your Christmas dinner table.
